Spring Retreat

The annual Hinterland yoga retreat was a beautiful experience for all, with the focus being a celebration of the lessons learned through the energetic hibernation of Winter; and a planting of the seeds of change for Spring. We enjoyed Sun Salutations on the beach, an immersion into Mindfulness Based Stillness Meditation, Yoga Therapy, Pranayama, music around the campfire with celebrated musician Kevin Borich and a delicious Ayurvedic menu. We look forward to sharing another retreat with you in 2012, stay posted for details!

Coolum Yoga Retreat 9th to 11th September Update

Hi all,
Just an update on the upcoming Yoga retreat at Coolum on 9th to 11th September 2011.
The main themes we're going to carry over the weekend will be a focus on mindfulness meditation as well as a focus on the experiences of letting go and opening up to absorb and receive.
You'll have a chance to think about what you'd like to let go of from the energetic hibernation of Winter and what seeds you'd like to plant in your life to begin a blossoming in Spring.
We'll have options for indoor and outdoor Yoga (on the beach Sun Salutations weather permitting!) and we'll have some massage therapists available so that you can truly nurture yourself with a body treatment as well as all the wonderful Yoga and lovely healthy Ayurvedic food available for you!
We hope to post the full schedule very soon, we'll keep you up to date.

Winter Yoga Class Tips and Benefits

Yes the mornings are colder, the nights also once that beautiful Winter Sun sets and leaves.
We do feel like we would like to hibernate, drink chai and stay in bed a little longer on those colder mornings.
That is fine, we are simply tuning into our natural instincts, and rhythms, but and there is a but, to keep everything happening as it should in a flowing and continuous healthy way we should still commit to our weekly class/classes and or home practice.
Why you ask?
To aid our digestion, assimilation, and elimination a regular yoga class is a must. The fire in the belly, Agni is encouraged to keep glowing, a regular yoga class helps to keep it stoked, and in good working order. On a more subtle level our emotional and mental state is uplifted and our sense of perception a little more finely tuned. Life just seems a little more easy to deal with. By keeping up your regular yoga practice, will power is developed, as is determination and focus. If you keep up your practice throughout Winter as Spring draws closer, toxins, and weight etc, are easier to shed, you feel a little clearer and lighter on every level.

It is always wise to wear clothing that you can layer on and off easily. At Hinterland Yoga all of our classes have access to heating, so it is not long before you are taking off that extra layer. Always bring water to class, and make sure you keep yourself well hydrated even through our cooler months.

Meditation is a lovely way to tap into that inner stillness, a daily practice is very beneficial, even if it is only for a short amount of time. At my class in Maleny I include a short meditation in each class. Winter is a wonderful time to retreat inward to rest, rejuvenate and replenish.

I hope I have inspired you just a little,

See you at class soon,

Finding Peace Workshop Update

"Our peace shall stand as firm as rocky mountains." William Shakespeare

More and more we are finding that everyone is just looking for that little bit of stillness in their lives, that calm place within to come to for a respite from the busy world, a tangible experience of Peace.
In our upcoming workshop we hope to share some ideas to find that place within each of us where we can come to rest and to find that firm and unshakeable sense of peace that Shakespeare was speaking of.

The morning will include a flowing asana practice incorporating classic poses in a creative flow - connecting to the exhalation as a vehicle for letting go and finding deep peace inside of our poses.
After our shared lunch we'll explore some Therapy practices to release tension in the body, letting go of holding patterns and finding a sense of physical freedom; techniques easy to practice in daily life and to share with others.
We'll then move on to a Yoga Nidra practice for deep relaxation and a meditation to really settle us into a personal experience of Peace.

As Gandhi said, each of must "be the change you want to see in the world";  living in a happy and peaceful world all begins with setting the intention and making the effort to find that Peace within ourselves!

We'd love to see you at the workshop.

stretching out

Travelling with yoga
Hi,  I have just returned from walking the wonderful Queen Charlotte track in New Zealand.
Following the stunningly beautiful waters in the Marlborough Sound for 5 days it was a great experience.
So important to warm and stretch those muscles and invigorate the circulatory system prior to physical activity.
Yoga has the perfect answers!
Have a look at my pics for some ideas.

Spring into Spring Yoga Retreat - Friday September 9 – Sunday September 11, 2011

Retreat will commence late Friday afternoon and finish mid Sunday afternoon

Step out of the dormancy of winter into the freshness and vitality of Spring.
Our Yoga Retreat this year is being held at the Luther Heights Camp at Coolum – a beautiful setting overlooking the ocean – a 5 min walk from the beach. Last year our Retreat at Luther Heights was a wonderful experience.

The participants so enjoyed the cleansing and yummy Ayurvedic food we are planning to do the same this year.
Our plans are to have an Ayurvedic (the sister science to yoga) theme with lots of ideas to vitalise you for the season of Spring. We are currently finalising our programme.

If you would like to be included on our email list for further details of the Retreat, when released shortly, please go to our contact link.

We would love to have your company.

Angela, Liz, Linda and Melissa.
